I go for a brief look. The modest though enthusiastic band of spectators is as much a participant in the event as are the talented pairings in the rings. Lots of fun it seems. The rain returns as I join the suitably wet weather clad throng. There are banners, silly wigs and much whooping and hollering. The field; competitors, officials and spectators move from ring to ring in a predetermined order for what appears increasingly complex snakes & ladder obstacle courses. One pair have their own Pippi Longstocking cheerleaders. The subtleties of the obstacle courses are not lost on the casual observer – the missteps particularly – that split second decision to ladder rather than snake instinctively shared with the entire field in a collective sigh.
