Cambridge NZ supports rowing?

This poster has graced the Duke Street window of photographers Hot Shots To Go for the past month. It celebrates the involvement of Cambridge photographers (six – at least – by our count) in the annual rowing regattas on Lake Karapiro over the past two decades and more. An involvement which, in our memory, goes back to the mid 1980’s. The poster and accompanying window display – which includes film from the 1978 World Rowing Championships – has elicited much interest from visitors and locals, rowers and not. With the staging of the 2009 Maadi Cup at Karapiro in a few days time – the last regatta before the serious work of the Karapiro Lake Domain makeover for the 2010 World Rowing Championships begins – Cambridge shopkeepers are being asked to adopt a school for the duration of the regatta – hopefully reflected in supportive window displays. One hopes this is a success – comments about our poster suggest many find it odd that one of the largest sporting events in Australasia often appears all but ignored, in Cambridge CBD, less than 12 minutes & 9 kilometres away from the much celebrated action.
