Cambridge’s entrepreneurial sisters-in-law Taaniko Nordstrom & Vienna Nordstrom, and Soldiers Rd Portraits owners, during their fifth television interview (TV2’s Totes Maori), since the February launch, earlier today at their Leamington HQ. The buzz around their venture has garnered 8,735 Facebook Likes and inspired Maori TV, TV3 and now TV2 to feature their successful business story. Developed over a two year period (2011-2012) Soldiers Road has toured Australia three times since February and gigged upwards of twenty times around Te Ika a Maui. The next Soldiers Road ‘at home’ is Saturday the 14th of September 2013. Check it out.

Leamington School, milk and one very tall Chief

At Leamington School 'milk in schools' launch this morning

At Leamington School ‘milk in schools’ launch this morning

Just down the road from me. Something of a publicity stunt; milk tankers in blue, tractors & quad bikes in green, Leamington Primary School students in blue, rugby players in black & gold, the organisers in hi viz. All very colourful. All very corporate. I’m sure the kids had a great time. PS in researching this I discover they did use real live farmers in those rather frenetic tv ads. Well there you go.

Cambridge BMX Club Milton Street Leamington NZ

This coming Easter weekend, yes, this weekend (29-31 March 2013) Cambridge BMX Club hosts the 2013 BMX National Championships. The track is a 5 minute walk from my house. These photos were made in a half hour period mid day today Sunday the 24th of March 2013. I am interested in the spectacle of the whole thing rather than specific sporting manouvers and identities. It is a surprisingly difficult subject. These images have been post proceesed fairly ‘robustly’ when compared to my usual.

A lick and a polish; Victoria Bridge Cambridge New Zealand

Victoria Bridge Cambridge New Zealand

Victoria Bridge Cambridge New Zealand

Closed for resurfacing this vital link in our infrastructure (one of two bridges connecting Cambridge with Leamington across the Waikato River we need both and could do with a strategy to build a third) will open again at around 11pm this evening. So, while they were at it the ‘grand old lady’ got a bit of a late spring clean at the same time. All good.

FreshChoice Leamington 9/10/2012

And no, I haven’t gone all advertorial.

The opening of a third supermarket within a town of 16/17000 population (discounting those living in our not inconsiderable hinterland) will have significant effects upon the patterns of movement, commerce and socialising within Cambridge. FreshChoice Leamington opened at 10 this morning, Tuesday, the 9th of October 2012 to speeches, a ribbon cutting, bagpipes and refreshments. Located in Leamington, the southern or western half of Cambridge (depending on your point of reference – the Waikato River or your compass), the enterprise is a franchise within the Australian owned Progressive Enterprises group. Oops @leamington Twitter handle; Sorry, that user is suspended – just saying!

Detail of a most striking mural which has appeared, in the past few days, on the building off set to the southwest of the roundabout on the corner of Shakespeare and Cook Street here in Leamington.

Just a little unnerving is the camera phone – random – perhaps a good thing for the terminally over designing photographer. And no RAW files – will I cope? BTW observation no way in conflict with this.

Coco and feijoas kitchen window sill

Coco and feijoas on the kitchen window sill

Two cats both tabbys – Tiger and Coco – patrol our section from their respective next door homes. Tiger is long haired Coco short, their colour and markings almost identical. They scrap they stalk each other – but tend to inhabit our space at different times of the day.
