Tin Tin 3D at Regent 3 Cinema Te Awamutu – my first 3D movie. The form is more subtle and absorbing than expected and absolutely no problem for one who wears glasses. Yes, there are set pieces flying out at you, and one or two other 3D surprises along with a Snowy misalignment to contend with (could have been my imagination). Viewmasteresque (if that is a word) at times – more psychological than visual perhaps? Some perspective shifts I couldn’t figure out; foreshortened figures and squashed limbs. Style? Design? Not sure. And while I’m playing the critic some of the editing seems a touch rugged for my liking. OK, so a cartoon film which suits the treatment with the jokes, asides and witty visuals coming thick and fast in sympathy with the original. On the whole a pretty impressive project – quite like being there.

It rained, and rained and rained. Then, happily, we had a respite for our garden wedding; the ceremony, the celebrations, the photography and the fireworks. It was all rather fabulous.

Heaps of fun. Heaps of energy, support and enthusiasm – community / commercial / service / personal. It didn’t rain. I like there being as many folk in the parade as there are folk watching the parade. It’s goodbye to Ann (retiring editor Cambridge Edition) and hello to Cambridge Volunteer Fire Brigade‘s flash new utility rescue vehicle. New World Cambridge do their thing superbly - supportive and practical. Louise is beaming; her Likes having doubled in recent days. On the subject of commercial support and such – big ups to Victoria Station for the best purpose built float by far.  Thumbs down to the real estate firm who cluttered up the pavement outside their establishment with advertising; embarrassing / tacky take your pick. Commercial messages abound and I’m not against them – there were 54 floats / participant groups and organisations in this year’s parade –  Maree tells me – practical and financial support has to come from somewhere – but hey lets see some creativity from our business sector – your commercial message is implicit in your participation.  Then there was the young chap on the PA who had some pronunciation issues – not quite Monty Python but close; Kaipaki really is the easiest name to say if you sound it out. St Peters Catholic School‘s wonderful nativity scene. Middle School band – and of course Karapiro School‘s wonderful Alice in Wonderland extraveganza / production. The flowers are from Karapiro School :) And lots lots more: there are more photos here.

This is a pleasant surprise. Richard O’Brien Rocky Horror Show creator at the Riff Raff statue, erected in his honour in Hamilton CBD, today, Tuesday the 29th of November 2011. Richard is attending a photo op to announce his New Zealand citizenship (to be acknowledged formally in December)  and to publicise a one off 70th birthday celebration concert at Founders Theatre It’s Party Time with Richard O’Brien on the 17th of March 2012  in support of Starship Foundation. Cool.

From Leamington to Kaipaki, Mystery Creek (Mellow Road is closed – for resurfacing it would appear) to Rukuhia and across the Waikato River at Narrows Bridge into Tamahere and a coffee at Punnett Cafe, on Newell Road, right in the middle of the strawberry harvest. Into the southern end of Victoria Street Hamilton (after the morning rush) and a free 120 minute parking space! Trees at the Meteor (you may like to change the URL of your landing page) is not on until the 13th of December - (note to self: do your research).

The old pool appears operational though closed for swimming this Tuesday morning – love the blue. The Hamilton Club on Grantham Street is a busy archaeological dig with the old building sitting at the southern end of the site awaiting repositioning (I think this is called The Grantham Project). Garden Place and the Christmas Tree under construction – Garden Place even after a recent serious makeover looks bereft – a little lacking. As I have been saying, over the past couple of years, Hamilton CBD is a strange land to me – a place I visited daily until late 2003 – it is far prettier than it used to be but seems far sparcer of people.

North along Victoria and London where I say hi to Murray and Tony at London Street Cafe (I think). Mainly Chairs in Barton Street where I overhear a snippet of most glorious Walter Mitty proportions (from a customer).

Back through Centreplace to Artifice in Collingwood Street – cute – a bit retro twee but cool decorative art all the same – multi media as well.

Then an in the right place and at the right time moment I am introduced to Richard O’Brien by Mark Servian at Riff Raff Statue.
