Environmental Art Photography Challenge 2011 | Waikato Sculpture Trust
The opportunity to acknowledge our landscape and the possibilities it holds for the artist/photographer.
Waikato Sculpture Trust challenges you to:
- create a temporary sculpture of natural materials that is particular to its setting or
- observe a naturally occurring sculptural form or occurrence in the landscape
The opportunity for artists, photographers, family groups and schools to create or observe an ephemeral environmental art work, document the work and submit a photograph of it. Test your observational skills, spontaneity and patience to work individually or with others.
Waikato Sculpture Trust runs this challenge annually to raise awareness of sculpture and the environment. The Trust organises successive sculpture exhibitions in the former 42-acre Tauwhare Quarry – a significant rehabilitation project – now transformed into Waitakaruru Arboretum and Sculpture Park.
Successful entries will demonstrate originality of thought in creating or observing an environmental sculpture and technical excellence of the photographic image. The judges will take into account three features of your entry: the overall sculptural concept, the photographic image, and the artist’s statement/ documentation.
Entries will be accepted until Friday the 8th April 2011. A $10 entry fee applies to cover administration costs.
14 images will be chosen, from the entries, as finalists. These finalists will be printed to 11 x 15 size, mounted, and exhibited at ArtsPost in Hamilton during May 2011.
The award ceremony will take place at the exhibition opening with first place receiving $500 and other finalists acknowledged as runners up.
