Yes, it is a surprisingly large body of water when you look at it from this point of view. To get your bearings you can just spot the pink church on Victoria Street SH1 directly above the first tree on the shore line which stands out from the right. There is a viewing platform somewhere up there which looks onto the lake and beyond to French Pass, Whitehall and Maungakawa. We are looking west. Lake Te Ko Utu forms part of the 17·6 hectare Cambridge Domain. King Tawhaio referred to Te Ko Utu as his Te Okohoroi (wash basin).
