These stories begin with their four grandparents and reach back ‘time out of mind’. The threads of memory and the prints of recorded events are followed back to the inevitable brick wall. As each generation shapes the following one – both genetically and by the environment provided, we may well feel a tenuous linking back through the years to earlier ancestors. Parents influenced their children who in turn influenced their children who in turn . . .
